Blue Christmas
December 21st, the winter solstice, a word that literally means "standing still." It marks the shortest day of the year, the official start of winter, when the sun traces its shortest, lowest path above the horizon in the northern hemisphere. Tradition says that nature and all her creatures stop and hold their breath to see if the sun will turn back from its wonderings, if the days will lengthen and the earth will once again feel the sun's warmth.
Aknowledging that not everyone feels like celebrating at this time of year, we gather on "the darkest night" with  readings and prayers. It may be the blue color, which symbolizes the hope of the Advent season, that is the very remedy we need for what makes us feel "blue" at Christmas.
Join us at 7pm Friday, Dec. 21st for "Blue Christmas."
